The Fix #66: The truth about “emotionless” numbers and why you need to avoid them in copy
WATCH THE EPISODE ON YOUTUBE HERE.
When I see injustice in the world, it makes me feel angry, frustrated, sad.
When I see the number 12,838, it makes me feel nothing.
Even if you put a pound or dollar sign in front of it, I still don’t feel much.
Yet so much copy in the world relies on numbers…shoving them right up there, front and centre, in the hope that the reader miraculously wakes up not with the emotional connections of a regular human, but with the attraction to numbers of a troubled maths genius.
Last time I checked, troubled maths geniuses represent a very small market that we don’t spend too much time selling to.
Regular humans meanwhile, who don’t have much of an emotional connection…
Well, those are the folks we’re copywriting at.
This is the main topic of discussion in this latest episode of The Fix that me and Nick recorded while in London this week sorting last-minute stuff out for Fix Fest.
Best,
Glenn
